Hang In There

It's pretty rare to find a fresh pair of Air Jordans on the side of the road, but when I saw 'em, I scooped those kicks up like a hawk. This is my new spin on the old tradition of hanging up sneakers on power lines.

After a little bit of a paint-job, I stuffed the shoes with dirt and topped each one off with an explosion of fluorescent (and drought tolerant!) red and purple Purslane. They grow quickly and bloom really well in direct sunlight.

I'm hoping to literally bring the birds and the bees (and you know what, the butterflies can come too) to a higher level in their day-to-day pollination excursions. When the Purslane grows down and out at it's own liesurely pace, passer-bys will hopefully do a little double-take as nature invades and explodes out of such a classic icon of the city.

I actually did close to the same idea for a final design project last semester.

I made them into a hanging light.

Haha thanks guys! I bet the hanging light looked sick, do you have some flicks of it?

...and I'm definitely gonna go back in a week or so to check up on the growth and try to get some pics of it actually blooming. it will be 30x cooler, I know it! :D
