Just A Bunch of WORDS

Yeah, I'll admit it. I check Dictionary.com every day I can for the word of the day. Then I check it's synonyms (cinnamon?) on Thesaurus.com and write down all the ones I like in my sketchbook. Somehow I ended up at the word:

lacuna: An interval during which continuity is suspended.

With that in mind, I drew this:

Then painted this:
Soon The Lacuna Will Pass
20"x30"

(Detail)

(Detail)

"Nawman don't NEVER pinch your cigarette."

I found this Polaroid SX-70 Sonar OneStep (with Polatronic 2 Flash, hollar) at a thrift store for two bucks. That's what I'm saying players. After some quick research I found out it's worth around $60 nowadays and is from the wonderful year of 1978. I have a pack of exposures coming in the mail soon to see if this tank works.

FINGERS CROSSED.

TO THE TOP OF THE WALL!

Recalcitrant! It's like eating the first spoonful of the crunchiest cereal when the air conditioner just turned off and everyone else is sleeping.

A Bird
6"x6"
"The world is a book
and those who do not travel
read only one page"
-St. Augustine

A Bird is a gift for a friend that is about to embark on an epic voyage around the world. This deep-dish painting should keep her company in the most non-schizophrenic way possible. Now for some drawings.

I haven't touched my 6B graphite in a while. I guess finding newsprint in a dumpster is all it took to break it out again. Au top du mur roughly translates to "TO THE TOP OF THE WALL!" in French. Realize.

The thing is, I never show anything out of my pocket sketchbooks because that's where a lot of my written thoughts and ideas end up. It's real like that. A couple drawings snuck in somehow, though, so here ya go.

I designed this logo for my friend's band "Mighty Mongo". They throw down some serious jams. Even though they ended up using a different logo, I like this one a lot and wanted to show. Nothing better than a curious toucan rising above a custom chunky jungle font. Well, almost nothing.

Thrift stores know I lurk pretty hard, and when I come in contact with some crazy 1960's middle school science book for 25 cents, its pretty hard to resist. I'm working on 3 paintings right now that have cut up pages of that perfect yellow paper as the base and they're really fun to work with so far. They're almost done I SWEAR.

Current projects include:
-Top secret paper-mache sculptures for my next placements.
-Starting a band with my sister.
-Another stop-motion animation for an upcoming film festival.
-An abrupt change-up with SpokenThreads. That's all I can say right now, homegirls.

NEVER
EVER
EVER
EVER
STOP.

Jan, You AIRY.

So today my main cat the Groundhog called me up. Word is there's another 6 weeks of winter! Luckily I've got plenty of paint and paper to keep me warm. Oh yeah, I also live in Florida. Here's my favorite stuff from January, TWO THOUSAND AND NINE. Startin' off right.

"A Nice Cake Is Waiting For You"

"After This Ravenous Grasp We Miss"

"Please Hold"

"In It To Win It"

"Looking Up Looking Out"

"Vacate"

"Lord Knows Where I've Been"

"A Wonderful Specimen, Really"

Those were my favorite January drawings fresh out the blackbook. The first painting was a birthday present. Hollar.

Self-promotion gets old after a while, so I'd like to show you this video.

The Gonz is as real as real gets. I'm talking this guy might just build you a tree fort if you didn't have a place to stay. I don't know that at all. The point is, this song is sick, this video is sick, and if you don't come down with an inspirational cold from the sickness, you need to cut back on the Vitamin C.

Nuff said.
